National Health Sciences Debate
Okiez dokiez, so the NHSD ended on 1st Dec, so this update is very very late, bleah. :P I was at KKB lah, cannot blame me right???
1. Preliminary rounds
Motions for the 5 round were:
-"This house would ban hypnotic psychotherapy"
-"This house believes that reparative therapy is the cure for homosexuality"
-"This house believes that members of parliament must undergo psychiatric assessment"
-"This house would allow employers demand for professional opinion on their employees' mental health status"
-"This house believes that austistic children should not be labelled as disabled"
This was actually the first time Adeline and I worked together. We only settled the teams on Sunday evening, therefore Adeline and I only trained as a team on that evening, in ONE debate. The other 3 IMU teams, however, have debated together during trainings much more than we did. Keeping that in mind, I think we did pretty OK. (Yeah, forget 'bout bad adjudication, I think prelims were quite good)
Anyway, if you read my previous posts, you'll realise that IMU 2 (Sheena and Hai Liang) and IMU 3 (Adeline and myself) broke. IMU 2 broke legitimately, while IMU 3.. well.. it was on technicality and in short, we were 2 lucky girls.
Oh ya, coordinated dresscodes, day 1 black, day 2 red. Pretty cute, actually.
2. Quarter Finals
"This house would legalise sex change operations"
Bad luck bad luck BAD LUCK, the 2 IMU teams had to meet during quarters. Both on the opposition side and boy, was it freaky when we found that we could read each others' mind. It was so cool when Sheena, Hai Liang and myself stood up at the same time to POI, and Sheena and I said the same thing, at the exact same moment. (Apparently, Elena, in the audience, did the same too.. yeah, the girl's nutty. :P) IMU 3 got into semis. Oh ya, quarters was the best debate I had in the entire tournament.
3. Semi Finals
"This house believes that medical insurance coverage should include all mental illnesses"
Bad. Like.. BAD. Worse personal performance in the entire tourny and the round was the worse round I was in during the whole tourny too. Bad right? I still cannot forgive myself for the POI that didn't come out right. ARGH. Was an experience debating against teams from UKM and IIU though...
4. Finals
"This house believes that schizophrenics should not be allowed to have children"
This time 'round, I was in the audience. *sobz* I didn't think it was a wonderful round though. Picked up quite a few stuff in the audience anyway. :)
5. Closing & Dinner
All of us IMU pple were clad in traditional costumes for the closing. It was the first time I wore a punjabi suit, not bad, I like. heehee.
Oh ya, got to meet the long heard about Magic at last, socialised a bit with everyone else and then it's off to KKB. Oh ya, drained, DRAINED was the word...

To the organising committee of NHSD, good job guys. :)
To the IMU debaters, *hugz* no need to say anything else, I guess. :D
To all who debated or adjudicated in NHSD, thanks for coming, it was great having a chance to meet so many of you.
***
NHSD left many of the IMU debaters high on debate (heehee, I know of at least 2 others) but 6 of the 8 of us who debated in NHSD hafta take a hiatus for a few months. The tourny also left me paper-less. *sobz* All my paper's gone to printing out stuff and for the debate itself.

most of us have come to term that high-on-debate feeling as Post Debate Depression or PDD. it usually takes a few days (sometimes weeks) to wear off (if you've been to asians/worlds then you'll need a support group to cure). symntoms include this itching urge to p.o.i. lecturers in class with a classic tagline, "on that point, sir/ma'am!"
thanks for inviting me for the debate. nice to meet you too:)

Magic, it was nice meeting you too. :)
Well, I really need to come to terms with PDD and get in the mood for PES (Pre Exam Syndrome) now. :P
