Sportsmanship ... or not
Those who read my previous post would have known that IMU cup ended recently and some may have noticed the tinge of sarcasm in the post. I won't attempt to be vague, instead, I'm stating here that this post IS about the recent sporting event. Two things to note before I proceed further:
1. I have nothing against anyone, just the issue.
2. This is my own point of view, meaning, it is bias.
If anyone finds my post offensive or if I made wrong assumptions, I apologise.
Now, on to my post...

1. The fact or practice of participating in sports or a sport.
2. Conduct and attitude considered as befitting participants in sports, especially fair play, courtesy, striving spirit, and grace in losing.
Is winning the most important thing in something like IMU cup? I say no. What is important is the sportsmanship that each athelete displays and the camaraderie between atheletes, not just those of the same team (in this case, batch) but between "rival" teams. We are, first and foremore, students of the same instituition and are all friends, yes?
Why were peoples so upset? Simply because we believed that the organisers rigged the entire event. We may be making false accusations, but I'm just stating our side of the story and that's how we felt. Since I'm on the topic, I will address an issue raised on my tagboard. 3rd Person Observer said "when ur in sem 5, and u have to balance 5 sems of studies + organising a mini olympics, u can get everything smooth. tat doesnt mean ppl are manipulating shit. jeez.. its just sports" No one has problems with the IMU cup proceeding smoothly, we do, however, have problems with "unwritten/unclear rules" (Girls bball Sem 1 vs Sem 5 issue), we do have problems with increased weightage in a sport the organisers are better at -- maybe we are just sore losers (Track events take up 40 points while others only 10??), we also have problems with the cheerleading competition's weightage (this cheerleading issue may be one big miscommunication, or maybe wrong assumptions on our part, but the relevant personnels' way of dealing with it is far from satisfactory), oh yes, did I mention we also have problems with the kayu referees and umpires? (IMU being the rumour mill it is, I will not be surprised if all these are just rumours gone wrong. But then again, I have said before, this is our points of view, and I just want to let whoever is interested know why we behaved the way we did)
That's not to say that we displayed good sportsmanship either. The jeering during cheerleading was uncalled for. The walking away towards the end of the prize presentation may be immature. In my own way, I am disappointed with the way we reacted, but I will also say that knowing how everyone felt at that point in time, this childish behaviour was understandable and maybe even justifiable.
At the end of the day, whatever is over, is, well, over. There is no point trying to sort anything out at this point in time since it no longer matters. To me, the Sem5s are the still the wonderful friends and seniors they have always been... Everyone (Sem5 or not), let's just let bygones be bygones.

hey yeepei. you know who this is right? :)
just want to clarify some things. cheerleading was kept the same as last year ten points. it was changed to 30 points in the last minute for senoirs advantage (by the seniors of course). plus the organizers already told/ briefed everyone. after clarification on thursday, the cheer captains already agreed that it was their mistake. i said my 5 cents. that's all. thanks
