Christmas Goodies and Memories

26 November 2007

My housemate, Andrea, decided to bake over the weekend, making batch after batch of yummy Christmas cookies. I was helping her and we had a lot of fun. It was great. Absolutely wonderful… :)

I was mixing the cookie dough and it looked a little too wet when…

Andrea: “Should I add a little more flour?”

Me: “Uh… ok!”

Andrea: (adds a little more flour and the dough looks just about right) “Maybe a little more flavouring?”

Me: “Uh… ok!”

Andrea: (adds a little more vanilla essence and sugar and the dough looks a little too wet again) “A little more flour?”

Andrea & I: ROTFLOL

Yeah, it was hilarious. I’m sure anyone looking at us in the kitchen would have been worried about how the cookies would turn out. Well… in case you’re wondering, they turned out GREAT!!! VERY YUMMY!!!

Continuing to read will bring you to a post that is of a very different mood. And no, I have not gone crazy yet.

Amidst all the fun, I couldn’t help remembering the last time I made Christmas cookies. It was in December last year, in a very different part of the world. I remember cooking the green gooey mess, shaping them into pretty little hollies and putting bits of chopped cherries on top. I remember us trying to handle the very very hot goo and shaping them without burning outselves. I remember the sleepover. I remember happy feet before the cookie making session. I remember still feeling tired from the journey home and almost falling asleep during the movie. It was the last sleepover we had. I never knew as I waved goodbye the following day, that it was going to be the last time I see her.

I don’t know why, but she keeps popping into my mind these days… it is maddening. I need to get it out of my mind. This will not do!!!

This time of year is tough on so many. There is no doubt those words bring little solice to you at this time. However, although she can never be replaced, nor can that gap that rests in your heart be covered up so easily, remember that there are those near by who think and care and love you every day in every way they can. No one can ever be Val, but we can all remind you of what it is both she, and the rest of us, see in our wonderfull Yee Pei…

Really, how many of your taig friends would walk you to and from the village? lol

    XxXx

    Tú cara agat,
    Reá.

Thanks, Ray. And seriously, how many of my Irish friends would call themselves “taig”? :P

i’m glad we can remember her, and I too remember being late for Happy Feet cos I got my car bashed, explaining to the policeman that I took 12 hours to report the accident, cos a friend returned from UK and I will not give up meeting her so easily :)

I guess it is only natural to be a little retrospective at year’s end. I hope that with time you can look upon them as sweet memories.
    Take care *hugs*
Btw when are you coming back for your hols?

It isn’t a bad thing to remember her, is it?

Cherish the memories, instead of trying to “get over it”. She may not be here physically, but the memories that you’ve shared should be forever etched in your heart :D
