SiCKO
28 October 2007I understand that these shows tend exaggerate the situation and terribly bias, but even if only 50% of it is true, I will be utterly disgusted.
I’ve never been to a klinik kesihatan or a government hospital in Malaysia as a patient. However, I have always appreciated the fact that my country offers affordable (RM1!! for a visit to the klinik kesihatan!) healthcare to her people.
Having seen Michael Moore’s SiCKO, I can’t help but feel even more grateful for the healthcare system in place in Malaysia, and for the NHS in UK. Sure, these systems do have their own sets of problems, waiting lists being a major pain… but many people sure are lucky that these systems are in place. Then again, isn’t the Malaysian govt talking about doing away with free healthcare? O_o Are we going to turn into a SiCKO country? Uhh-ohh…

A lot of people don’t realise that last point - Malaysian healthcare system is built mainly for cheap accessibility, not to manage some relatively rarer disease. Despite its many downside, I think it serves its purpose rather well.
Maybe I shall blog about it some time.
