Babies-A-Plenty

13 September 2007

I’ve got a good reason for not keeping Rantings updated and it is all in the topic. I am away in Craigavon during the week for my Obs & Gynae posting, and the only way I can get internet access is from the medical education centre (MEC) in the hospital… and firewalls are a pain. Well, to be fair, even if the firewalls weren’t making things difficult (well, there’s a time quota system for banned sites, so I can still access most websites, including Rantings), I would not have had time or energy to blog during the week.

Most med students have the same worry in their obs & gynae postings… “Deliveries deliveries… DELIVERIES!!!” I have to observe 2 and deliver 3, and so far, I have only seen 1. I have not gotten ANY yet and it isn’t even because I don’t try. (I’m only talking about vaginal deliveries, C-sections are all sorted… hurray!) I have sat for HOURS with women in labour, induced and otherwise… and those babies just won’t make an appearance!!! Alright, I really shouldn’t be complaining because I am not even the one in pain.

In other news… I had a lot of fun in the C-sections on Wednesday. I must be the only one having fun by the end of the day since everyone else was doing their 5th section (on top of everything else they had to do) and looked really tired. There I was, still grinning from ear and ear, talking to new born babies who cannot for understand me at all. Babies are sooooo adorable!!! And there was a pair of twins too!!! BRILLIANT!!! It was really good not to have to stand around getting in everyone’s way and feeling totally useless… I am fully aware that the medical team can do without us students around (and would most likely be able to work faster too), but being allowed to scrub in, getting a better view, holding the retractor, odd clamp, putting on a clamp or cutting a suture… is absolutely wonderful. (Yeah yeah… cheap thrill, I know…)

Now…

I like obstetrics, but am not a great fan of gynaecology… Babies!!!!!!!!!!

5 more weeks of this posting, so bear with me and my broodiness for now. ;)

Hey YeeP, dun have your email so thought I’d leave a msg here instead. I just found out that Sheena doesn’t have the dinner at Chili’s pics… was wondering how I could get them from you. Did you upload it to an online album or anything like that? Would really appreciate it if I could get them quickly… I’m leaving in a week and I wanna get them washed before I leave! :) Thanks! +yk+

Yes!! Come down to Klang for babies. In three days, you can get 20 pieces of placenta and that is barely scratching the surface of number of mothers who seems to be squirting babies like crazy.
