Trip To Ireland

16 April 2007

Last Thursday, Harp & I missed our favourite Paddy so much, we went looking for the Leprechaun down south. In the 4 days we were there, I learnt more about Irish history and culture than I ever did in Northern Ireland this last 7 months! We went to the site of the Battle of the Boyne, Hill of Slane, “Casserly Castle” (that’s our host’s pet name for the place. heh…), Trim Castle (Braveheart!!), Hill of Tara and Newgrange in Co. Meath… and to Kilmainham Gaol and Trinity College in Dublin (and a lot of walking around Dublin city, of course).

Alright… photos time!

Here’s the person we went to look for…

His right profile

His left profile

Sometimes, he forgets that he’s not really a sheep, and he eats grass.

At the risk of over-boosting his ego… he was the best host anyone could ask for. The little bit of fighting had over a very comfy chair doesn’t count… but yeah, overall, 10/10 if I had to score him. :) His parents are such lovely people too! (Ray, please thank your Mum and Dad for us.)

And if you’re looking for a great travel companion (plus pretty girl), here’s one I’ll recommend…

Took this picture on top of one of the abbey walls on Hill of Slane. And both of us made a discovery… we’re afraid of heights. Brrr…

Freeeeeezin’ in Kilmainham Gaol.

Looks like she’s up to no good eh? Mmm… she’s checking out what’s UNDER those rocks at Newgrange.

The two of us, at one of the archers’ shooting posts at Trim. I don’t quite know what they are called, but that’s what those slits are. Wide on the inside so that archers can stand and have a proper view, narrow slits on the outside so archers from the opposing side will have a tough time getting at them.

This one’s difficult to explain unless you’re there. Ray took the picture for us from the top, so we were sort of in a “hole”, but we had to climb to get there. Mmm… uhh… told you it was hard to explain, didn’t I? :P

Here’s another picture that needs explaining. It is an old corridor somewhere in the castle walls but in order to get up into it, you’ve got to climb, and there is no path or steps or stairs… it’s like climbing a rock wall neither a belayer nor proper footholds. I didn’t get up because I’m a coward and didn’t think I could come down. Thank goodness I didn’t… because now Harp’s got a story to tell about getting down. ;)

We also got to meet this lovely Irish girl, Anika. I bet these 2 are the happiest looking people ever to be found in a prison cell.

There’s this thing about the Irish and their old gates. Huge gates, but they prefer to climb walls. I don’t get it.

They even have steps to help you. And a “chip” in the wall too!

Mummy mummy, Trim castle is SOOOOOO big! If you don’t recognise the castle, it is where most of the castle scenes in Braveheart was filmed. The tower right behind me was the one the prince’s gay boy was thrown out of!

Ray, Harp, Me!
The three of us are getting a place together next year. :)

Hopefully a place as beautiful as this…

Fat hope? Errr… a girl can dream, can’t she?

A little bit more of camwhoring….

Please excuse the fatness.
