Picking up the pen
13 March 2007It’s been a long time since I last wrote anything with a pen. I don’t mean filling up forms or writing short answers/notes for school, but pages and pages of writing. The last time I wrote anything longer than a page must have been during A levels! Then along came general medicine posting with its 5 case reports and the powers-that-be decided that one of it has to be handwritten. My, was it tough!
It usually takes me 1 full day to sort out a case report (assuming I’ve gotten the full history, examination and investigations and have not missed out anything) This handwritten report took me almost 3 days to finish. And the rationale behind handwritten reports, I have no idea! A way to torture the students, I assume…
Well, that’s all done now… one more case report to do by Thursday, cardiology, and thank goodness it can be typed.

Does stylus count?

I find writing very soothing, especially when one uses a fountain pen. This tool has become such a relic however, that I’m finding it harder to buy ink when I run out.

“And the rationale behind handwritten reports” - hmm, let me guess, I know I know, so that the students cannot ‘copy and paste’, ;)
