We’re Malaysians…

2 August 2006

… and there are certain things we don’t do, certain things we don’t want to see and certain things the government seeks to protect us from.

1. We don’t hold hands in public, no, we don’t want to see you holding hands either, thank goodness for the government, we’re now protected from that awful sight!

2. We are easily affected by movies/tv shows, please don’t show us suicide scenes. Please oh please… otherwise, those scenes may give us terrible ideas and we’ll go commit suicide too.

3. We don’t like skin, no, we don’t want to see too much skin, we really can’t bear it! If you want to perform on our stages, please make sure you’re well covered. It’s best if you are covered from head to toe, of course…

4. We don’t need those horrible porcine extracts, er, I mean Botox. Not porcine? Nevermind. We don’t want them. Terrible things.

5. We don’t want to read horrible untruths on the internet. No, we don’t think we need to learn to filter the truths from the rest, we just don’t want to read anything untrue! These untruths, they cause disturbances and makes us lose faith in the country’s economic policies!

The Prime Minister has issued a warning – those who spread untruths and slander on the Internet will face the law.

If information in blogs, websites and online portals were incorrect, bordered on slander, caused disturbance or compelled the public to lose faith in the nation’s economic policies, their authors would be detained for investigation, said Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.

Thank goodness Pak Lah said something about it. Yes, you, you, you and you… We don’t care if it is just your little weblog, please verify all information. For example, if you’re going to accuse your neighbour’s cats of fighting and keeping you up all night, please make sure you know they belong to your neighbour, are not strays and that they were the ones creating a ruckus!

No, you may not express your views on your blog. Don’t even bother saying that you’re Malaysian and its your right to voice your opinions regarding the various politicians and the policies put in place… we do not want our peace and quiet disturbed! If you really want to talk about current issues, please stick to Siti Nurhaliza’s wedding… and don’t you dare get her wedding gown’s colour wrong.

Ahhh… what a wonderful country, I live in. I stay in my room and tell myself that nothing bad can happen to me. Nothing bad can happen to me if I don’t read them off the net, right? Ahhh… bliss.

Peter: Depends on who’s the one speaking the untruth, you know. Some people spread untruths and they turn into truths. ;)

UK Doc: Ah ha! If ever there was a safe topic, you’ve found it! :D

Eve: I’m merely expressing my views on the matter… dictionary.com says that scathing is “To criticize or denounce severely; excoriate.” I see this as a severe denouncement and I don’t mean it as one. :) I guess it also depends on readers’ interpretation. Take it in jest and it’s all a joke, think of it as something serious and it’s all solemn and serious… If anyone’s offended by what I say on my blog, I’ll consider password protecting the offending posts.
