Vent

12 October 2005

I just got back from Mock OSCE and the fact that I need to rant means only one thing, that it didn’t go so well… Everything was fine and good until I reached the first PE station, with Dr F inside.

Me: *Intro, ask permission, examines patient w/o saying anything…*

F: I don’t know what you’re doing. You failed, but continue doing.

Me: Huh? *loses all concentration and wanna find out what I did wrong.* What’s wrong, Dr?

F: What?

Me: Why are you angry?

F: *huge lecture on how I should be concentrating on the patient and not on why the hell he’s angry*

Me: *thinks to self… WTF… you should be marking and not commenting on whether I pass or fail in the first place. If you wanna say something, then finish telling me what went wrong lah!!!*

BUZZZZZZzz…

F: I don’t know what you’re doing. If you didn’t know what to do, just stop. You should have inspected the patient first.. and you mixed up blah blah blah…

Like.. WHAT THE FUCK!!! Your colleague told us NOT TO COMMENT anymore… claiming that YOU GUYS WILL KNOW WHAT WE’RE DOING. I INSPECTED K. Why can’t IMU CSU standardise what they want from students? Why is it that we always have to have an F-Method, HA-Method and an Everyoneelse-Method and decide on what to do depending on who we find in each PE station?

FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK. If I don’t know my stuff… you can scold all you like k. I happen to know my stuff here…

Look, I have exactly the same complaint as you, but every time in the past when I tried to rant about things, I was always told that if I were really good, it wouldnt matter whose method I used. And oh ya, remember the golden CSU rule: the lecturer is never wrong. With those 2 nuggets of gold, I end this post, with my deepest sympathy. Tomorrow is my turn!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i so understand what you mean. in the end, exam is so much like acting or playing a game. if you have the right script/move for the right person, then u ace it, if not…the total opposite happens. why can’t they just have ONE standard method??

Dolphin: I had another appt.. so didn’t go. Heard from Linda that it wasn’t much.

Jel: You guys get it too? well…looks like it’s not an IMU thing…

[…] Mock OSCEs were always more difficult than OSCEs proper. I guess that’s because there’s a lack of standardisation and more than ever, what you should do depends on which examiner you get. Most of us have had trouble with the lack of standardisation during our times and got very very angry at getting scolded for no reason. […]
